Musicology Ethnomusicology Student Association

Article I: Name
The name of this organization is MESA or the Musicology Ethnomusicology Student Association.

Article II: Purpose
The purpose of MESA shall be to provide opportunities both professional and educational, as well as a social forum for students with interests in all forms of musicological scholarship.

Article III: Membership
Membership in MESA is open to all students and faculty professing an interest. There will be no grade point or enrollment requirements.

Article IV: Non- Discrimination
a. Membership and all privileges, including voting and officer positions, will be extended to all students, without regard to age, ethnicity, gender, disability, color, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
b. Membership and all privileges, including voting rights and officer positions, will be extended to all students as stated in the University of Georgia Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy. Title XI of the Higher Education Act of 1972 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex or handicap.

Article V: Officers
a. The officers in MESA shall consist of
1. President- presides over meetings, makes general leadership and organizational decisions and delegations.
2. Treasurer- provides financial oversight and record keeping
b. Must be elected yearly by a majority of members present at election meeting.
c. Year long terms- August- August
d. Same office cannot be held in consecutive years.
e. Yearly opening meeting will include a balloted election. Officer must win a majority vote among voters present at meeting. Absentee ballots are permitted.
f. Officer may be removed at any time by a majority vote of all members.

Article VI: Meetings
a. Meetings shall be held monthly, or as called by officer via listserv.
b. A quorum consisting of 60% membership shall be present at each meeting in order for business to be conducted.

Article VII: Amendments
The constitution may be amended by a vote of 2/3 majority of total MESA membership.
